The last few months have gone by quickly: prom season, my oldest son’s graduation, several art exhibits, some ER visits, the never ending project that was supposed to take one month. The project was like reading, “When you Give a Mouse a Cookie” and each part led to something else. Phase one is complete though- I have a new entry and the fireplace is gone. I’ve spent countless hours painting and doing small jobs and while I was doing it, I was thinking about lessons I’ve learned that day, had reinforced or taught my kids. I’ve been jotting them down when I think of them. So for your entertainment, here goes:
Recent lessons during the last few months:
- Smiles really are contagious
- Complimenting a stranger can change that person’s entire day
- Be kind to everyone, even if you don’t really like them. Someday you may need them.
- No matter how bad or busy your day seems, there is someone out there having such a bad day, they would love to have your problems.
- Not all brands of flat white ceiling paint are the same shade of white
- One project always leads to the next.. You are truly never finished.
- You can get poison ivy rash in the winter, even when there are no leaves.
- Time really does go fast.
- No matter how much someone you love annoys you, you will miss them terribly when they are gone.
- You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.
And a few things I’ve actually told me boys in the last few months:
- Hair dryers are for drying hair… not your body.
- Phones were actually created as a means for people to talk to each other.
- You don’t need to carry a seven pound rock in your track bag. (really)
And here is the before and after of the side of our home. Phase 2 is the landscape/hardscape. Unfortunately, I am sitting with a sprained ankle, so I’m not sure how quickly things will get finished.
